So you have set some goals , have a list of new resolutions...but here you are...all talk and no action. I've been there and found that the tips I have included in this post put me on the right path in helping me achieve those goals. I am still a longway away from seeing results. But slow and steady wins the best race.
Preparation is Key
Often we make New Year’s resolution or set goals- second
day of January we expect everything to fall into place ?Wrong !
To execute a goal, you need to plan your steps beforehand
this will increase your chances of following through.
I had a goal for 2018 of where I wanted to be and guess what
? I started laying down the foundations in the season before January and then
the first week of January it was already set into motion. I also found getting a
diary also helps with the preparation stage as it allows you to organise your
time and reminds you to actually get to work !
So if your resolution is to stay healthy, try planning your
workouts beforehand, meal prepping and shopping for new workout gear. Try speaking
to people on a fitness journey so you can exchange tips. All this will start getting
your mind right so you will be more likely to stick it.
Visualisation
So you want those abs ? or you want longer and thicker hair
? You need to surround yourself with
these images. Create a vision board. There are even great phone apps
for this like Happy Tapper and Hay House, if you don’t want to get all
arts and crafty about it. It also creates accountability.
Talk about it
Tell your friends , your colleagues and even spam your
social media with your goals. This creates accountability. This is not necessarily to shame you but how embarrassed would you be 3 months from now when your friend ask you how your fitness journey is going but you are yet to join
the gym???
Start Small
If your aim is to learn a new skill or run a 5k race ,you can’t
be expected to achieve this by the first week of January. Please be realistic.
What you can do is set mini challenges each week, for example ‘I will run 0.5 k
this week without stopping …', each week you build on it. You're pacing yourself.I
mean sure you can try and run 5k in the first 2 weeks of January but don’t you
want to do it properly ? instead of stopping and starting every minute and
pulling a muscle. Therefore, start small to create a sturdy foundation and
build on it to create a long lasting results.
Don’t be so hard on yourself
Okay you missed one workout and had a piece of birthday
cake. You forgot to take your folic acid , so now you fear you have stunted your
new healthy hair journey. ??? Listen most of us are working adults, with lives
and jobs. There will be days where you have not done something on your list.
However, don’t be too hard on yourself which will likely create negativity
feelings of failure and in turn make you quit. What we're not going to do is
quit ! Our focus is consistency here, we’re creating new habits , therefore the
change won’t happen overnight so don’t be too hard on yourself just be
consistent.
