Don't Tell The Bride: Ola & Raphael

04:07

Hi guys haven't posted in a while, but thought I will spill out a posts relating to last nights telly...
Being Nigerian I was so looking forward to yesterday's episode of Don't Tell The Bride (BBC 3).

For those who don't know, the show is about the Groom having to plan the wedding on a budget of £12,000 -without any input from the Bride. The Bride also isn't allowed to know any details about her big day.

The episode featured Raphael, a medical student and Ola who is a Nurse. Both are 23 and met at University.

Firstly, I knew the episode would be interesting as the couple discussed how there were celibate and hadn't even kissed !

No kissing ? Really ? Maybe this is where ive been going wrong all my life- handshakes from now on. Atleast one will be able to decipher who is serious or who just wants to 'chill' ...didn't even bother to write netflix there, as some of you guys don't even have Netflix. You will just be refreshing putlocker every 5 minutes.

Anyways, the Bride didn't want a traditional wedding and just wanted a small white Wedding.Obviously, in the Nigerian culture this aspect is important. It's really for the family, everyone decked out in traditional wear and the groom has to lie on the floor and beg the family for the daughters hand in marriage. Like this...

I know looks extreme, but so is smashing plates, lifting the couple in chairs and jumping an old broom with your groom ay ?

Many key moments, but when the bestman said the budget for  the Wedding dress should be £67 lol really.  Anyways Raphael ended up going to one Aunty to make the dress and she charged him £800. Which obviously is an amazing price for a dress. I thought it was nice on her, minus the Elsa gloves.

Raphael also didnt plan anything for the Hen Night, just bought her and her friends onesies to wear and a few packets of crisp, whilst he went out clay pigeon shooting or whatever. Lol

However, what was confusing is the traditional wedding usually happens sometime before the white wedding. However, on the show they had the white wedding and a reception( with tradional bit implemented??) on the same day.

I didn't like how bbc didn't show more of the traditional wedding and show viewers what music the guests were actually dancing to. I mean playing Jess Glynne, 'No place I rather be...'

Anyways, I took the liberty of gettung videos, as I actually know people who went. So this is how it went down.

The aso ebi (traditional wear) was on point, obviously aunty was involved. I don't believe Raphael picked this all by himself, after the Elsa gloves saga lol.
Until next time x

Love Pat x

  1. Thus, by putting into practice the first of these virtues, the relationship is much more harmonious. The mistakes that can be made at the beginning of the relationship are perceived differently and are more tolerated by both parties.
